Materials and areas of application

We supply a high-quality selection of hot working tool steels, perfectly matched to your application. Due to their excellent thermal shock and tempering resistance, hot toughness and high hot wear resistance, our tried and tested steels offer long service lives at operating temperatures above 200 °C.

With BGH DieCast One optimised for aluminium die casting or BGH Tough One, we also offer you two materials with significantly improved operating properties compared to standard grades.

BGH hot working tool steels

The processing and shaping of plastics places highly diverse demands on the tool steels used. This is due to the diversity of the plastic material itself but also to the type of end products to be manufactured. We offer plastic mould steels that are perfectly suited to your application and meet the highest quality standards in terms of polishability, temperature and wear resistance, corrosion resistance or a combination of these requirements.

One example is BGH 1.2316 mod. which has significantly improved toughness and corrosion resistance compared to the DIN analysis and is suitable for highly stressed tools.

BGH plastic mould steels

Whether in shear blades, piercing or punching tools, in bending, thread rolling or embossing tools; cold work steels offer optimum wear resistance and tool life at surface temperatures in operation of up to 200 °C.
In addition to the standard grades, we supply BGH Cut One, which with its optimised cutting edge stability and wear resistance is an economical and high-performance alternative to PM steels.

BGH cold working tool steels

High-speed steels enable high cutting and feed rates in metal cutting. They do not lose their hardness even at surface temperatures of up to 600 °C and thus guarantee long service lives with the best machinability.
BGH supplies, among others, material 1.3343 (HS 6-5-2C), which is used in cutting and punching tools as well as in the field of extrusion as cold extrusion punches or dies due to its good combination of toughness and wear resistance,.

Data sheet

1.2316 mod. / X30CrMo14-1

Properties

1.2316 has proven itself as a corrosion-resistant, martensitic mould steel with high toughness, good machinability and polishability.
However, the DIN analysis tends to form inhomogeneous microstructural areas with regard to chromium carbide distribution. This makes it susceptible to pitting corrosion, as the low-chromium areas have a lower corrosion resistance.

This problem could be largely eliminated by targeted optimisation of the analysis in 1.2316 mod.
Compared to the DIN analysis, 1.2316 mod. shows a much more homogeneous and finer distribution of carbides.
As a result, it is superior to 1.2316 both in toughness and corrosion resistance.

Application area

For highly stressed tools and mould making for processing of corrosive media.

Typical applications

  • Plastic moulds
  • PVC-processing
  • Blow moulds
